Our Story
From frustration to solution - how a nursing professional's side hustle led to building the business management tool freelancers actually want to use.
The Healthcare Foundation
Decency Okobia (he/him) began as an ICU nurse in the UK, working across multiple specialties and developing critical thinking skills in high-pressure environments. While pursuing his Master's in Advanced Practice Nursing, the challenge of managing freelance work alongside nursing shifts revealed gaps in existing business management tools.
The Technical Journey
In November 2024, Decency transitioned into programming, mastering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React through self-paced learning. This unique combination of healthcare expertise and software development skills enabled a deep understanding of what freelancers and self-employed professionals actually need.
IndieHQ.org Development
Drawing from real-world experience managing business finances while working nursing shifts, Decency Okobia founded and developed IndieHQ.org in 2025. The platform addresses specific challenges faced by freelancers: expense tracking, professional invoicing, and financial record organization - all built with the reliability and simplicity learned from healthcare systems.

From Nursing to Development
As a self-taught developer with a nursing background, I understand what it's like to work independently and manage multiple income streams.
Working agency nursing shifts while building websites and apps for friends and colleagues gave me firsthand experience with the challenges freelancers face every day.
The constant juggling of expenses, and payments - all while trying to focus on the actual work - was frustrating and time-consuming.
